County jail and release-record questions begin with Johnston County Sheriff’s Office. The current sheriff and detention materials use the U.S. 70 Business East campus rather than the obsolete downtown addresses still visible on some legacy pages.

An older JCSO arrest page reports Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., but it also carries an old downtown address. Call before an in-person records visit to confirm current lobby hours, the correct entrance, and the delivery method. JCSO also warns that an email address sent to the agency becomes a public record, so use phone or written mail if that disclosure is a concern.

Match the question to the agency and custody system below. Transfer out of one facility does not always mean release to the community.

• County jail custody or release record: use the JCSO current housed list, call the jail line, and request the booking-linked release entry. The Johnston County Detention Center page identifies the current facility and local release path.
• State prison or completed state term: search NC DAC Offender Public Information by offender ID or name, then read the full status, sentence, and incarceration history. Local prison contacts and state verification steps appear on the Johnston Correctional Institution page.
• Probation, parole, or post-release supervision: use the DAC Active Probationer/Parolee filter and the Johnston parole and probation reference. Judicial District 11 Community Supervision is at 1327 Brightleaf Boulevard, Suite C, Smithfield, 919-934-9970.
• Court judgment or case result: use the North Carolina eCourts Portal or contact the Johnston Clerk of Superior Court at 919-209-5400. A court calendar shows a setting, not the outcome.
• Custody-change notification: search or register through NC SAVAN on VINELink, or call 1-877-627-2826. An alert should be confirmed with the reporting jail or NC DAC.
• Federal custody: use the Federal Bureau of Prisons Inmate Locator for BOP records. Federal pretrial custody may involve USMS and may not have a complete public local release trail.
• Immigration custody: use the ICE Online Detainee Locator only when an immigration transfer or hold is documented. No dedicated ICE detention facility was confirmed in Johnston County.
