Information You Submit
Terms Entered in Search
A name, location, or other term entered in a search tool is sent to the third-party provider that operates the tool. Johnston County Released Inmates does not keep or log those search terms on its own systems. The provider receives the query so it can return its results, and the provider's privacy policy governs that processing.
Messages Sent to Us
If you send an email or use a contact form, the message and the contact details included with it are retained as needed to read and answer the request. We do not share a message outside the organization unless doing so is required by law. Messages should not include sensitive personal data that is not needed for the question.
Technical Visit Data
Routine technical records may be created when a page loads. They help the site function, show broad use patterns, and reveal errors. Depending on the browser, device, and service involved, those records may include:
- The internet protocol address associated with the request
- The browser name and version used to open the page
- The device category and operating system
- Pages viewed and the time spent on them
- The referring website, when one is provided
- The date and time attached to each request
Browser Cookies
Cookies and similar tools may be used to understand how visitors move through the site and to support site features. A browser can block or delete cookies through its settings. Some functions, preferences, or measurements may work differently when cookies are disabled.
Reasons We Use Data
The limited information described above is used for site operations and service delivery. It is not collected to create an official Johnston County custody file. Uses may include:
- Keeping pages available, stable, and responsive
- Passing a search request to the selected partner service
- Learning which pages and features visitors find useful
- Detecting faults, misuse, and other technical problems
- Displaying advertising that may reflect general interests
Privacy Beyond This Site
Links may lead to the Johnston County Sheriff roster, North Carolina Department of Adult Correction records, court portals, federal locators, release records, or third-party search tools. Once a visitor follows one of those links, the destination's own privacy notice and data practices apply. North Carolina public records held by government offices are governed by applicable law, including G.S. 132-1, rather than by this Privacy Notice.
Advertising companies may use their own technology to recognize activity across multiple websites and tailor advertisements. That collection occurs on the advertising partner's systems, not on systems controlled by Johnston County Released Inmates. Review the partner's settings and privacy terms for choices it offers.
Parties That May Receive Data
We do not sell personal information. Limited data may still pass to outside parties that perform a defined function or to an authority acting under valid legal process. Those recipients may include:
- Search partners that receive and process submitted queries
- Analytics providers that measure visits and page performance
- Advertising networks that deliver or measure advertisements
- Law-enforcement agencies or government bodies responding to a valid legal order
Security Has Practical Limits
Reasonable, commonly used safeguards are applied to information under our control. No website, network, transmission, or storage method can be guaranteed secure in every circumstance. We therefore cannot promise that a breach, loss, misuse, or unauthorized access will never occur. Visitors should use care when deciding what to include in a message.
Visitors Younger Than Eighteen
Johnston County Released Inmates is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under eighteen. If a parent or guardian believes a minor submitted personal data, use the Get in Touch page to identify the submission and request deletion.
Choices About Your Data
Available rights can depend on the information, the visitor's location, and applicable law. A request may be subject to identity verification and legal exceptions. You may ask us to:
- Provide a copy of personal information we hold about you
- Correct personal information that is inaccurate
- Delete personal information when no legal reason requires retention
- Stop or limit certain processing when an applicable right permits it
Changes to This Notice
This Privacy Notice may be revised as site practices, providers, or legal duties change. The updated text will be posted on this page and will carry a new effective date. Continued use after publication is subject to the revised notice.
